B-LINE TRAIL
BBOR, the local real estate advocacy group for Monroe and Owen County REALTORS®, and the Indiana Association of REALTORS® helped fund the 3,000-plus square foot plaza along the first downtown section of the new B-Line Trail. The REALTOR® Plaza is located directly behind the Bloomington-Monroe County Convention Center and comes complete with park benches, bike racks and a people and dog friendly drinking fountain, inviting hikers to rest in comfort and style. “We are proud to collaborate with the city of Bloomington to support such an important economic development project that truly benefits the public,” said Ronita Walcott, president of BBOR. The REALTORS® $50,000 contribution provided significant support for the city’s completion of Phase I of the B-Line Trail and provides a beautiful rest area along the downtown trail.
BLOOMINGTON IN BLOOM
Judging for the Bloomington IN Bloom (BIB) competition took place on June 18 and 19, 2010 which was the end product of nearly two years of planning. Both visiting judges were highly complimentary of Bloomington's efforts. The winning city will be announced at the America in Bloom® Symposium held in St. Louis, MO later this year. Bloomington was judged on eight categories: Tidiness, Floral Displays, Landscaped Areas, Urban Forestry, Environmental Effort, Turf & Groundcover, Heritage and Community Involvement. The judges visited more than 54 sites over the course of two days and nights. Included in the tour was a helicopter ride that allowed the judges to view the area from the air. Expert speakers were also on hand at certain sites to lend their knowledge and passion for their particular area of expertise. BIB is an outstanding example of a diverse group of educational institutions, organizations, residents, businesses, and municipal facilities working together for positive changes in the community. There is no doubt that the level of community involvement with BIB contributed significantly to the judges' favorable impression of the city.
The project’s advisory committee would like to thank the following: Indiana Association of REALTORS®; Bloomington Board of REALTORS® (BBOR) and BBOR committee members Gretchen Scott, Brian Thompson, Jennifer Woods, and Mary Jane Hall of F.C. Tucker/Bloomington REALTORS® and Becky Wann of RE/MAX Realty Professionals; the City of Bloomington Mayor Mark Kruzan, the HAND Department, the Public Works Department, and the Parks and Recreation Director Mick Renneisen and his support staff; Indiana University representatives Mia Williams, Laurie McRobbie, Bob Meadows, Burnie Fisher, and Maria Morris; the Herald Times and Carrol Krause; John Bender; Sharon Belcher and the Bloomington Photography Club; DesignLoft, LLC.; Curry Buick; Michelle Myers of Hoosier 3D Imaging; the project leads Amy Thompson, Debra Beck, Kim Ecenbarger, Susan Eastman, Cathy Meyers, Susie Johnson, Dot Owen, John Turnbull, Julie Ramey, Danielle Bachant-Bell; all the community volunteers; and BBOR Staff Liaison Faye Jameson.
